SIMONA HALEP IN PRESS CONFERENCE. KREMLIN CUP BANK OF MOSCOW 2013

Q. You played much worse during the Asian series. You were struggling with your serve. What happened? Why now you are playing much better?
Simona Halep: After Asia I had about 10 days break because I also had a right shoulder injury. I didn’t feel so good after Asia but I was recovering very well after that. Now I feel good, I like the court and my game was very good this week.

Q. Simona, you won 5 titles after 5 finals. Do you think it will be enough to be named the best Romanian athlete of the year?
S. H.: I’m not sure yet. I hope that I will be. Yeah, I won 5 titles. And it is an incredible year for me. I feel incredible now.

Q. You are the only player who won on all surfaces this year. Do you have any favorite surface?
S. H.: It’s hard to say which one is my favorite. I feel more comfortable on clay.

Q. Pavlyuchenkova at her press conference said that you would have the advantage over Stosur because you would be more fresh.
S. H.: Yes, after Asia I didn’t play. Maybe Sam is tired because she won in Osaka. But I felt the game here very good. I think I was a little bit more fresh than her.

Q. In previous years such champions as Azarenka and Wozniacki never came back to defend their title. Can we hope you will be back to defend your tiltle?
S. H.: For sure, I want to come here again but we’ll see if I will be injury-free. I feel really good here. I will be very happy to play here again.

Q. What is the key factor in your improvement this year?
S. H.: I am more aggressive on court, I hit the ball very strong. I have few problems with my serve. Now I want to improve it during offseason. I’m more relaxed on court and I can say that I’m focused in every point. I play with pleasure.

Q. Did you feel support of the local fans, maybe from Moldovans residing in Moscow?
S. H.: Yes, it was nice today, people were supporting me and Sam. Public was nice. I want to thank them for their support.

Q. Looking ahead to Sofia, you beat Sam today, she is going to be there. Is there anyone you feel confident playing, anyone you are a little bit worried to play?
S. H.: Every player from there is very strong because it is a special tournament, and we are just 8. Every match will be tough. I have confidence that I will beat few players there. So I just want to enjoy and will try my best again. It will be not easy.

Q. You have been playing really well this season. Do you have plans maybe to try to reach the top 8 not just in Sofia but at the year in WTA Championships that will be held in Singapore next year?
S. H.: It’s difficult because next year I will have to defend all the tournaments which I won this year. I will have pleasure next year but I want just to play like this year. It will be not easy but my dream is to stay in top 20 for next year.

Q. Now Romanian women are doing better than Romanian men. Why?
S. H.: Yes, we have a lot of girls in top 100. I don’t know why. We are just fighting girls, we like to work a lot, to play more tournaments than boys. I cannot say that we don’t have boys. In juniors they play good but in ATP Tour not really. But I hope next years it will be better.

SAMANTHA STOSUR IN PRESS CONFERENCE, KREMLIN CUP 2013, BANK OF MOSCOW

Q. Last year you defeated Ana Ivanovic in three sets. This year you managed to do it in two sets. Was it easier to play against her?
SS: Not necessarily. […] I had few things in my head I wanted to try today. Right from the start it was working. My confidence built up. I played quite well right to the end.

Q. Do you enjoy morning sessions? If you have an early match, what is you r routine before the match?
SS: One o’clock is not so early. (laughs) So that’s fine for me. Coming from Osaka, waking up early is ok. I have plenty of time in the morning. And it’s nice as I plat doubles as well. An early start might not be a problem.

Q. You perform quite well in Moscow as you were runner-up last year and now you are in the semis. Can you say the surface and the stadium suits you?
SS: I managed to play well here. Sometimes the court here feels a little bit strange with the balls and everything. But the way I play I might just hit through the ball and use my power. It seems to work pretty well.

Q. You came from Osaka. Do you have any jet-lag?
SS: It hasn’t been too bad. I have been tired for a couple of days. But I’m used getting up early. At 6 o’clock it’s ok. You know you have a match to play. And you focus on playing the tournament.

Q. Do you plan to play with Svetlana Kuznetsova in doubles next year? How will it be for you if you might have to play her in the semis here?
SS: We need to talk about it. I enjoy playing with Svetlana so far. If we keep playing I think we can do better and better. The match we played yesterday is the best match so far. If we decide to play next year I am sure we’ll have good time. As far as I play her tomorrow then it’s hard sometimes to play people you know a little bit better. I played her already twice this year. I played well against her but…Playing her here, in Moscow, will be a different situation.

Q. Do you feel the support of the crowd?
SS: The crowd could be a little bit bigger. But it’s nice to play out there.

Q. After the match you had some band on your arm. Something bothering you?
SS: That’s nothing, an old injury. It’s precautionary now.

Q. Ana Ivanovic said some fans here gave her a photo album. Did you get any presents so far?
SS: I got a Sochi little teddy bear. That’s so far the only present from here. It’s nice from people to give you things. In Osaka I received many gifts. My bags are getting bigger now. (smiles)

SCORES 17 OCTOBER 2013. KREMLIN CUP, BANK OF MOSCOW

ANA IVANOVIC IN PRESS CONFERENCE, KREMLIN CUP, BANK OF MOSCOW.

Question: What do you think about the match?
A.I.: I think it was really good match for me. I started well she is a tough player I am really-really happy that in important moments I played well: I start up, I came in and serve well. So I was very pleased.

Q: You played Stosur last year what do you expect from her this year?
A.I.: It was really tough match, she has a good serve, she plays differently, she has a lot of kicks, and she has a lot of power. She runs to her forehand. It was a really tough match in semi-final last year I hope a can have a revenge from last year.

Q: Have you already visited some Moscow sights?
A.I.: Oh. On Tuesday and  on Wednesday we went to the Kremlin, I find Moscow is very romantic. I`ve never actually been here when it is snowing I can only imagine how beautiful it is.
One of my fans gave me a book about Moscow, I hope I can find some ideas there what places to visit.

Q: What practice is best for you a bye on the tournament or to start to from the opening round?
A.I.: Last time I started from the first round that is why I`m glad to have a bye there.

Q: You are still a very young player…in your opinion what young upcoming players are worth watching?
A.I.: I think there are so many young players coming up. There are many young player showing powerful tennis. There is Jaksic from Serbia, she is a really good player, I think you are gonna see her on the tournaments next year. Lots of juniors (1993-1994) all over the world show some amazing tennis. They are fearless. And it is nice.

Q: Could you recall some presents from your fans?
A.I.: In China I got some chop sticks and a T-shirt with my picture and it is saying: «Сome on, Ana»! It is always nice to receive the presents.

Q: Novak Djokovic was here in Moscow few years ago and he said that Russians and Serbians are brothers forever. Did you feel this brother`s support?
A.I.: It`s always good, I have a lot of fans there, you know I feel we understanding each other, the similar mentality and some connection. Also I myself can read in Russian, it is always nice to be back here.

Q: You are already the «veteran» of tennis, do you feel yourself playing in the ages of Serena or Kimiko?
A.I.: You know I like small kinds, I think it is amazing to be in that fit, to show that level in that age. But I don`t see myself playing that age. I love tennis and I wonna play it, as long as I feel it I want achieve what I want achieve. But I also have other priorities in my life. I want to have family and I don`t want to be an old Mum.

Q: What do you think about the situation with Victor Troicki?
A.I.: It is very hard permission I know he was very sad, you know he couldn`t play Davis Cup. It is very hard. I hope he can move on and come back.

ANASTASIA PAVLYUCHENKOVA IN PRESS CONFERENCE. KREMLIN CUP, BANK OF MOSCOW

Q. Anastasia, do you think you won thank to the fact Maria Kirilenko is not in her best form right now?
AP: I prefer to think I won thank to the fact I played well. I think I played evenly as I was motivated to win.

Q. Could you please to tell about your doubles match today?
AP:  Yaroslava said she didn`t warm up enough and wanted to play some more. I told her to warn me about things like that next time. Kleybanova and Voskoboeva stayed quite relaxed ,started to hit a backhand and managed to win.

Q. Your next opponent is going to be Hantukhova or Dolonc. What do you  think of them?
AP:  I`ve never played with Dolonc – only in junior matches. With Hantukhova I played about four times and always won. I will watch their match tomorrow and will motivate myself.

Q. Seems like you lost weight since the Federation Cup?

AP: Thank you. I think it`s the Korean virus is the reason of it. I also work out.

AP: No, I am still thinking of it.

Q. How do you find the atmosphere here at the Kremlin Cup?

ORDER OF PLAY, 16 OCTOBER 2013, KREMLIN CUP BANK OF MOSCOW

ANA IVANOVIC IN PRESS CONFERENCE. KREMLIN CUP, BANK OF MOSCOW

Q: It’s not your first time in Moscow.  You played here, even beat the Russians within the Fed Cup tie. What do you associate Moscow with?
A.I.: I have a lot of nice memories about Moscow. Last year we came here for the Fed Cup, we didn’t expect a lot. During the tournament I also had a nice time with my mom – walked around Red Square, saw ballet. This was very special!

Q: You’ve mentioned the curiosity about Moscow sites. Are there any sites left that you would like to discover?
A.I.: If you have any suggestions, I definitely would like to see new things. We changed the hotel – we supposed to live in another one, so I didn’t have time to look around.

Q: What about Cathedral of Christ the Savior?
A.I: I think we’ve been there during Fed Cup, because we are also orthodox.

Q: You had a great week, played lots of matches. How do you feel now?
A.I.: Yes, I just arrived last night, so I’m a little bit tired. Hopefully I can have another day in between tomorrow, and practice a little bit more. I feel good. More confidence is coming from last week. I really hope I can perform as well this week.

Q: We have two tournament on the same week Fed Cup and WTA the tournament of champions, that year Kirilenko and Vinci have to make a choice where to play, don`t you think that there tournament perhaps should held the different weeks or maybe the players must be required to take part in?
A.I.: Oh, I was in that situation last year and that is not the best situation to be. I personally think the tournaments should be the different weeks because in one way it is your honor  to play Fed Cup…you want to be there for your team, on the other hand for your own career and own ranking, obviously Sofia is better. But it is very – very hard decision I had that choice in the Fed Cup last year, so you know for me it was very special moment to reach the final.

Q: The official poster and the official web-site you are featured, you are the one of three players featured there even though we are having quite a few Russians there. Is it you flattering to you to be featured as one of the biggest there?
A.I.: Yeah, definitely. Thank you so much it is very flattering and it is really a great honor for me and I am really-really happy to see that as a part of this event.

Q: You respect this tournament in Sofia how is it improved for you to participate? Do you get a wild card?
A.I.: Yes, for me it is very important, I mean, it is the best way to play in Istanbul, it is very nice to finish the season there, but it is really great because I played in Bali and I won it twice, it is special memories for me I had a lot of nice memories from the last year.

Q: You played this European championships in Bali you one it than it moved to Sofia and there is information it is going to move again where would you like it to move, any idea?
A.I.:  I think it is moving next year, but a lot of tournaments are moving to Asia and the championships obviously going to Singapore. So, I hope I will be in Singapore next year.

Q: There have been some changes in the team could you say what were there changes and who is that company you are here with in Moscow?
A.I.: After Wimbledon I stayed with my coach that time and I start working with Nemanen, he is Serbian and also Zlatko, he is my fitness coach, he also works with Serbian team. For me I`m very happy in that environment here this week and my Mum is here as well.

Q: You are slimmer, you lost some weight from the beginning of career and you are looking more attractive, could you share your secret!
A.I.: I`ve just got some photos from last year I look much stronger now *laughing* We work out very hard and stress also…but it is really good and now I have my fitness coach travelling with me so I have to be in fit in order to compete with top players, you know, when you see Serena, you really need to start up *laughing*
