OSTRAVA, CZECH REPUBLIC: Karolina Pliskova delivered a masterclass in the opening reverse singles rubber in Ostrava to put Czech Republic on the verge of a place in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semifinals for the ninth consecutive year.
World No. 3 Pliskova blasted Garbine Muguruza off the court in just 60 minutes, triumphing 62 62 to hand the hosts a 2-1 lead going into the fourth singles rubber.
Barbora Strycova has the chance to deliver a 10th consecutive Fed Cup tie victory for Czech Republic when she takes on Lara Arruabarrena in Sunday's second singles.
Strycova and Arruabarrena have never met before at Tour-level, though the Spaniard did win their only previous meeting in qualifying for the WTA event in Paris in straight sets.
