An ITF tournament from 1993 to 1997, what is now known as the Claro Open Colsanitas was upgraded to a WTA-level event in 1998. Since then, the tournament at the Club Campestre El Rancho in Bogotá has evolved into one of the most prestigious sporting events in all of Latin America. Bogotá resident Fabiola Zuluaga captured four of her five career singles titles at this event - a tournament record. Argentina's Paola Suárez has the most doubles titles here with four. Colombia's largest city and capital, Bogotá features internationally recognized universities and libraries. "The Athens of South America" is also home to regional offices for many companies.
