ESTORIL OPEN 2013, DAY 30 APRIL 2013

Top seed Marion Bartoli made a surprise first-round exit at the Portugal Open on Monday.

Shuai Peng beat Bartoli for the fifth time in 11 meetings with a 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 win in one hour and 45 minutes on Centre Court. World No. 14 Bartoli has now lost in the first round of three straight tournaments.

"The first match on clay is always tough for me and obviously at the beginning I had a lot of trouble finding my game and my feet on the court," said Bartoli. "I wasn't feeling comfortable and Peng Shuai was playing extremely well as well. I just tried my hardest on the court and was able to play some good shots in the second set.

"I felt like the third set was really close and we both started to play quite well, but that game at 3-3 when I had 40-15 she hit quite a lucky return and that really hurt me. It was a very difficult draw, but I think it is better for me to have those kind of matches early in the clay court season and try to improve for the big events coming up."

Peng will next meet Romina Oprandi, a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Kiki Bertens   Source_Estoril_open_official_2013
