Ana Ivanovic  eased into the third round of the French open on Thursday with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Kurumi nara.

By the end, Ivanovic's game, particularly on her favored forehand side, was flowing, striking 35 winners and only 24 unforced errors.

"When I'm hitting the forehand it definitely gives me confidence, and again, it's connected with the movement. When I'm in a good position, I feel I strike it much better," Ivanovic said. "Today that was the case. And I knew I had to be aggressive and move well against her, also take time away from her, because she's great player. She moves well, so I really tried to step in and look for my forehand. I was very pleased it worked well."

Halep overcame a slow start to book her place in the third round of the French open defeating diyas in straight sets on Wednesday.
Halep restored a sense of order with a 7-6(5), 6-2 win on Philippe Chatrier. However, it was far from straightforward for the No.6 seed and 2014 finalist, who surrendered serve twice to trail 4-1 in the first set.

The procession of breaks continued into the second, before the Romanian gained control of proceedings, wrapping up victory when Diyas flicked a forehand long to end another extended baseline exchange.

"I expected a tough match. I played two times against her and I know that the score was easier, but still I felt she was very dangerous," Halep said.

"She has a flat game and today she played really well. First set she was hitting all the balls and very flat, so the ball didn't bounce too much. I stayed a little bit too far from court. But in the end I found the rhythm. I found the way to play aggressive, to dominate the game, and I finished it in two sets."

Serena Williams sailed through a day of upsets on Tuesday, defeating magdalena Rybarikova 6-2, 6-0, to advance into the second round of the French open.

"It was a little short for me," she said in her post-match press conference. "But I think in my career if I don't have it by now I need to look into something different."

Kiki Bertens  caused the first major upset at this year's french open knocking out kerber in the first round on Tuesday.

In a contest that had all the ingredients for an upset, the crowd on Philippe Chatrier was not left disappointed with the dish served up by Bertens. Fresh from a triumphant week in Nürnberg, where she came through qualifying to lift the title, the Dutchwoman continued her fine form to defeat Kerber, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

"I came here to play round by round, and I know that you must play your best tennis in the first rounds, as well, because everybody is a tough opponent to play," Kerber said. "I was trying it. It was not my day.

"I tried to fight also in the third set. But unfortunately she played too good in the important moments."

Radwanska raced through her first round match with Bojana jovanovski,  playing bright tennis under a gloomy sky to win, 6-0, 6-2, and set up a second round meeting with caroline garcia at the French open.
The Serb struggled to find her range, Radwanska soared, hitting 22 winners to just nine unforced errors, breaking serve five times and saving all three break points on her own serve to advance in straight sets on Philippe Chatrier Court.

Muguruza advances to 2 round in Paris 2016. Anna Karolina schmiedlova out!

Muguruza overcame a slow start against anna Karolina schmiedlova  to book her place in the second round of the French open.

In a performance that mirrored her season, Muguruza struggled for consistency throughout, eventually subduing Schmiedlova's spirited challenge to run out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner.

The match was one of the many that fell victim to Sunday's inclement weather, and when they did finally make it onto court, Muguruza looked like she would rather still be in the changing room.

Schmiedlova arrived in Paris on the back of 11 straight defeats, but she put these woes to one side to build a 4-1 lead. With Muguruza's groundstrokes continuing to misfire, this cushion proved enough to give her the first set and as she continued to exert pressure at the start of the second an upset looked on the cards.

simona halep made a confident start to her 2016 french open  challenge, swatting aside Nao Hibino in 45 minutes.

Three of Halep's last four Grand Slam appearances have ended with defeat to players ranked outside the Top 50, however there was never any danger of number four coming at the hands of Hibino.

Halep started confidently, breaking to love in the third game thanks to a smart backhand winner. The set was soon in the bag and when she fired away a forehand to break at the start of the second, the writing appeared on the wall.

Petra kvitova kicked off this year's french open  with one of her signature three-setters, narrowly avoiding an upset at the hands of a determined Danka kovinic.

For a set and a half Kvitova looked to be cruising into the second round, only to suddenly find herself dragged into a dogfight. By the end she was hanging onto her title dreams by the thinnest of threads, coming within two points of defeat before eventually closing out a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory.

The constant drizzle that descended upon Paris's 16th arrondissement on Sunday morning did little to help Kvitova, taking the edge off her serve and groundstrokes. "I started pretty well, and I think that the conditions weren't really easy today.

"I think that in the second set when I was serving to make it 4-1, I missed four easy backhands and I felt like that was kind of the turning point and I was kind of down mentally after this game. I think she just came back and tried to play more aggressive. I was I think running too far behind the baseline. I was just trying to put the ball in, but it's not really my game.
