An ITF tournament from 1993 to 1997, what is now known as the Claro Open Colsanitas was upgraded to a WTA-level event in 1998. Since then, the tournament at the Club Campestre El Rancho in Bogotá has evolved into one of the most prestigious sporting events in all of Latin America.
Bogotá resident Fabiola Zuluaga captured four of her five career singles titles at this event - a tournament record. Argentina's Paola Suárez has the most doubles titles here with four.
Colombia's largest city and capital, Bogotá features internationally recognized universities and libraries. "The Athens of South America" is also home to regional offices for many companies.

Anastasia pavlyuchenkova completed a Russian sweep of WTA titles this week, shocking top seed and angelique kerber 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 to win her fourth Abierto gnp seguros title.

I'm really overwhelmed and don't think I realized that I just won my fourth Monterrey trophy," she said in her post-victory press conference. "Some people just have four trophies in total, and I have four here! It's very special and it's a special place in my heart; it's where I won my first title and since won three more.

In the first all-teen WTA final since 2009, daria kasatkina  knocked out former junior colleague Jelena ostapenko, 6-3, 6-1, to win her first WTA title at the volvo car open.

"It's very difficult to describe my feeling now," she said in her post-victory press conference. "I feel I'm just sleeping and everything is not real. I'm so happy. Really."

Angelique kerber  battled past Carla Suárez  in two sets to return to the Abierto gnp seguros final for the second time, 7-6(6), 6-1.

Kerber will face three-time champion anastasia pavlyuchenkova in the final, a rematch of the pair's 2013 final here in Monterrey which saw the Russian defeat Kerber to claim her third title.

"It's a completely new year, so I will not think about my last final here," Kerber joked in her post-match press conference. "It was three years ago, and anything is possible. I'm going out there tomorrow to try to play my best tennis and try to win the match."

Angelique kerber needed an hour and twenty-three minutes to see off the defending champion Heather Watson in straight sets and book her spot into the semifinals of the Abierto BNP Seguros, 6-4, 6-4.

"I think it was a good match, especially at the end," Kerber assessed in her post-match press conference. 
"We both struggled a little bit but I'm happy to be in the semis right now.

"I tried to play my game aggressive, and it's always tough to play against Heather, especially because she was the defending champion here. But I'm happy I'm through it."

CHARLESTON, SC, USA - The unseeded Jelena ostapenko put together a dominating performance to oust 2011 champion caroline wozniacki in straight sets and move into the volvo car open semifinals.

At 19 years old and ranked No.66, Charleston-debutante Ostapenko was the youngest and lowest-ranked player left in the draw. But she backed up her results to reach the second Premier-level semifinal of her career with the 6-2, 6-4 victory.

"It feels amazing to be in the semis here," Ostapenko told press after the match. "First time I'm in Charleston, and today was a tough match because Caroline is such a great player.

Laura Siegemund outlasted an in-form venus williams 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5, to win her second three-setter in three days and sail into the third round of the volvo car open.

"I have no idea!" she said during her on-court interview when asked how she pulled off the win over the 2004 champion. "It was a really good match; it was going up and down. I just tried to believe in my game, and if I was down, I told myself I was going to get more chances."

Monterrey hosted a WTA event for the first time in 2009 at the Sierra Madre Tennis Club.
While Marion Bartoli was the inaugural winner of what is now known as the Abierto Monterrey Afirme, 2010, 2011 and 2013 champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has been the tournament's dominant figure. In 2014, former World No.1 Ana Ivanovic was victorious.
The event attracted publicity during the 2012 staging when Serena Williams and Gisela Dulko delighted fans by rallying on an acrylic mini-tennis court that was floating on water at the Santa Lucía Riverwalk.
Monterrey is informally known as "the city of mountains" and is the capital city of México's northeastern state of Nuevo León. It is a base for many major international corporations and is México's second richest city.

The Family Circle Cup has a rich history ongreen clay that dates back to 1973, the year all of women's professional tennis was united in becoming the WTA. It is the largest women's-only tournament in the world, and Family Circle magazine is the longest running title sponsor in men's or women's pro tennis.

At its maiden staging in Hilton Head, South Carolina, the Family Circle Cup was the first women's tennis event to offer $100,000 in prize money and the first to be broadcast on network TV. It moved to Amelia Island, Florida, in 1975, back to Hilton Head in 1977 and settled in its current home of Charleston in 2001.T

he Family Circle Cup's list of champions reads like a roster of all-time greats, with names such as Tracy Austin, Jennifer Capriati, four-time winner Steffi Graf, Justine Henin, Martina Hingis, Conchita Martínez, four-time champ Martina Navratilova, Gabriela Sabatini, Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario, three-time titlist Serena Williams and Venus Williams. Chris Evert was the most dominant, collecting a tournament-record eight titles.

The Original 9, the nine players who signed $1 contracts with World Tennis publications publisher Gladys Heldman in 1970 to compete in what would become the Virginia Slims Series, reunited at the Family Circle Cup's 40th anniversary in April 2012. One of them, Billie Jean King, had the stadium court named after her.

Johanna Konta  put on an emphatic performance to knock out former caroline wozniacki, 6-4, 6-3, to win the biggest title of her career at the Miami open.

"It's all kind of sinking in," Konta said. "I think going into any match, but also against someone like Caroline who's such as athlete and can really stay out there as long as she needs to, it was really important for me to straightaway assert myself in the manner I wanted to play just so I had it clear in my head and give myself the best chance of executing what I wanted to tactically."

Both players will break new ground in their careers when they set foot on court on Saturday, as each is competing in her first-ever final at the Miami open.
Playing in Miami for the 10th time, Wozniacki's best result previously came in 2012, when she reached the semifinals. Konta is playing in Miami for just the second time in her career, and reached the quarterfinals in her 2016 debut.

Konta may have flown under the general radar for much of her 18-month rise, but she has done everything in 2017 to prove last year was no fluke. Since the start of the 2016 season, Konta is 9-6 against Top 10 opposition. She's for real.
