  Maria Sakkari pulled off an incredible comeback against top seed Elina Svitolina to become the second semifinalist at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic.

Trailing 6-1, 5-2, Sakkari saved three match points to force a decider, and later came from a break down to seal an improbable 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 comeback over the top seed in the last eight.

In an all-qualifier quarterfinal tussle, Maria Sakkari of Greece moved past France’s Kristina Mladenovic, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0, to reach the semifinals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Friday.

"I just sat down after I won the second set, I was like, 'Now it's your time, now it's time to do what you have to do,'" Sakkari told the press, after her win. "Just went after my shots. Trusted myself. I think I did pretty well," she concluded with a smile.

Maria Sakkari got her second win over Alizé Cornet this year as she secured her first WTA semifinal spot at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open, 7-6(2), 7-5.

Currently ranked No.80, Sakkari made it through qualifying to reach the main draw in Wuhan, where she has already beaten fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki and 16th seed Elena Vesnina, both in straight sets.

"It's been a tough week for me, a good week obviously," Sakkari said after the match. "I've been running a lot inside the court, but it's not time to be tired. I still have tomorrow's match, and why not more matches to come?

"I just have never stopped fighting -- just run, take the opportunities, but mostly fight."

Venus williams advanced to the fourth-round of the 2017 US Open

Venus Williams advanced to the fourth round of the 2017 US Open on Friday, with a victory over Maria Sakkari of Greece, 6-3, 6-4.

With this win, Williams has reached at least the fourth round of all four majors this year. "My best tennis this year has come at the majors," Williams said in her post-match press conference. 

"I don't play nearly as much as some of my contemporaries, but this year when I have played, it's definitely been quality tennis. That's exactly what I want, and obviously to play my best tennis at the Big 4."
