After a first day which left this contest all square, Simona Halep resisted a marvellous display from Caroline Garcia to triumph 67(6) 63 64. It was a two-hour-57-minute crunching battle of wills which saw these two aggressive baseliners batter one another time again before Halep prevailed. At the dockside Kindarena venue in the ancient Seine port of Rouen, might it be the Romanian side whose ship is coming in?
