In the semi-final of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas, France overcame the odds and so much more in Rouen to defeat hot favourites Romania and win through to their sixth Fed Cup Final.
It came down to the deciding doubles, where the French duo of Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia reunited on court for the first time in two-and-a-half years to see off Simona Halep and Monica Niculescu 5-7 6-3 6-4, trampling the Romanian dream of making tennis history by reaching the ultimate shootout for the first time. At the dockside Kindarena venue in the ancient Seine port of Rouen, France’s ship has come in.
