Simona halep advances into Eastbourne 2017
EASTBOURNE, England
Simona Halep had a winning debut at the Aegon International on Wednesday, as she rallied past Duan Ying-ying to begin her campaign in Eastbourne, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The duo played just two games on Tuesday when play was suspended yesterday due to rain, and Halep was forced to battle back upon resumption on Wednesday.

A year after finishing runner-up at the inaugural Mallorca Open, Anastasija Sevastova went one better in Spain, surviving three tough sets against Julia Goerges to win her first WTA title in seven years, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

In just her second tournament since injuring her hand during a home invasion, Petra Kvitova roared back from a set down to defeat Ashleigh Barty, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to win her first title of the year at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.

Julia Goerges ended the breakout week on grass for American CiCi Bellis in Mallorca on Saturday, as she rolled into her first-ever WTA final on the surface and first final of 2017, 6-1, 6-1.
In just under an hour, the 28-year-old looked every bit the part of a player who had upset No.1 seed Anastasia Palyuchenkova in the second round, as she hasn't lost four matches this week.
"It just feels special overall, it doesn't matter on which surface it is - it's been a while!" Goerges said. "I just feel great on the grass here, it's been a solid week for me. I'm very happy to be in the final. I just try to play every match as best as I can, and fight as much as I can.
"At the end of the day, I can say I've played four very good matches here so far and obviously, I'm very pleased to play the final tomorrow and going ahead to Wimbledon."

Petra kvitova into final of the Aegon Classic Birmingham 2017

Petra Kvitova moved into the final at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham for the first time in her career on Saturday, as compatriot Lucie Safarova was forced to retire with a lingering right leg injury in the semifinals with Kvitova leading 6-1, 1-0.
In just her second tournament back following a hand injury suffered in a home invasion in December, Kvitova returns to a WTA final for the first time since winning the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai in November.
"I was just thinking about my game, and yeah, I'm sorry for her that she's unhealthy, but I hope she will be better soon," Kvitova said. "I think she had a great run here for sure. I'm happy that I'm in the final, but the way I am going is a bit weird. The hand is good, which is the best news which I can have, and I am not feeling any pain, and that's the best news."
Ashleigh Barty into final of the Aegon Classic Birmingham 2017

No.77-ranked Ashleigh Barty is through to the biggest final of her career after taking down Garbiñe Muguruza in three sets at the Aegon Classic Birmingham.
The No.6 seed Muguruza, a former Wimbledon finalist, bossed the first set but couldn’t contain the Aussie as she mounted her comeback to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
“I think she played very well,” Muguruza said in her post-match press conference. “She was very smart with the slice, which I think is a difficult shot on the grass.
Lucie Safarova into semis of the Aegon Classic Birmingham 2017
Lucie Safarova became the first semi-finalist of the day, defeating Australian ninth seed Daria Gavrilova 6-7(4), 6-3, 7-6(5) in an epic three-hour marathon. The Czech, ranked no.41 in the world spectacularly saved three match points before reaching her second semi-final on grass in the space of a week. Safarova also came back from two match points down in her previous match against third seed Dominika Cibulkova
