Katerina siniakova conquer's of the Ericsson Open 2017

BASTAD, Sweden
Katerina Siniakova clinched her second career WTA title at the Ericsson Open in Bastad, shocking top seed and former WTA World No.1, Caroline Wozniacki, 6-3, 6-4.

Delayed by heavy rain after the conclusion of the doubles final, Siniakova and Wozniacki endured a tough battle on the heavy red clay before the Czech youngster earned the win after nearly two hours on court a year after reaching her maiden WTA final in Bastad.

"It’s really amazing for me," Siniakova said during the trophy presentation. "Last year was really good, and so I’m so happy that I came back because I couldn’t imagine a better week.

Caroline wozniacki vs katerina siniakova. Ericsson open final 2017

BASTAD, Sweden
Caroline Wozniacki made it through a rainy day at the Ericsson Open, defeating rising Belgian star Elise Mertens, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Katerina Siniakova stands between the top seed and her first title of 2017; the Czech youngster upset Caroline Garcia, 6-2, 7-5.

"It was a difficult match," Wozniacki said after the win. "She played very well, aggressively in the wind and the sun was very low. It was a combination of those three factors that made it so tough, but I tried to hang in there and be aggressive. I served well when I needed to."

Caroline wozniacki win's over Pauline parmentier into Ericsson open 2017

BASTAD, Sweden
Caroline Wozniacki needed three sets and nearly two hours to move past a tricky Pauline Parmentier and reach the second round at the Ericsson Open, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

The top seeded Wozniacki, a finalist here in 2009, took a few games to get settled back on the red clay of Bastad while Parmentier came fresh from a quarterfinal run at last week’s BRD Bucharest Open.

“It’s definitely much different playing on clay [than grass], so the match was a bit complicated,” Wozniacki said after the match.
