Eugenie Bouchard advances in Kuala Lumpur open 2016

Even a visit from the trainer midway through the second set failed to derail Bouchard, who recovered from a break down to close out the contest, 6-1, 6-4.

"She was a tough opponent. I felt like I played very aggressive and solid at the same time," Bouchard said. "I got a little dizzy at the beginning of the second set but I managed to fight through."

The conditions in the Malaysian capital have proved a thorn in the side of several players this week and they tested Bouchard physically and mentally: "It's pretty tough here - it's very humid in Malaysia. Sometimes I was seeing four balls instead of one! But the physio helped me a little bit and I just kept fighting, took it one point at a time and luckily managed to win it in two sets."

Against Nara she impressed once again, breaking four times to wrap up a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

"No match is easy. I was focused on every single point and I just tried to stay aggressive and that worked well today," Bouchard said.

Struggles on the court and injuries off it precipitated a slide down the rankings for Bouchard. However, with the help of new coach Thomas Hogstedt - whom she teamed up with last autumn - the Canadian is relishing the rebuilding process.

"I'm on the right path, but I'm not expecting it to come in one day," she added. "I know it's a long journey and I had a lot of time off because of injury. It's going to take a least a few months to get back to where I was, but I'm just trying to stay positive and focused on one tournament at a time.

"This is an opportunity to get more matches and that's what I need right now, so I'm happy I got two here already and I'm looking forward to a couple more, hopefully."

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI CONQUERS KUALA LUMPUR 2015

Wozniacki hadn't even come close to dropping a set all week, but Dulgheru was on her game early in the match, using her heavy topspin groundstrokes to get the first break of the match and build a 3-1 lead and, after letting go of that break, breaking again en route to taking the opening set, 6-4. 

 But the No.1-seeded Wozniacki got right back on the horse, reeling off 11 points in a row to kick off the second set and then storming out to a 5-0 lead in the third en route to a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory. 

 "I think she played well the whole match," Wozniacki said. "She tried to play aggressive and take the ball early. 
But I knew she had a tough match yesterday, so I just kept playing my game and kept trying to put pressure on her. I think I stepped it up in the second and third sets, and it paid off."
