WTA tennis comes to Romania in July with the Bucharest Open on the red clay of the Arenele BNR, which also hosts an ATP event in April.

"We are very happy to be able to bring together in Bucharest the greatest names of worldwide women's tennis," said George Cosac, President of the Romanian Tennis Federation, which organizes the tournament.

Simona Halep did her home country proud by capturing the inaugural staging in 2014.

"I really wanted to play this tournament and win it," Halep said. "Today's final was a very emotional one. The crowd was amazing and I want to thank everybody who played a part in the tournament."

Bucharest is Romania's capital city and industrial and commercial center.

Serena Williams and Venus Williams extended their doubles dominance at Wimbledon 2016

 Just hours after winning her seventh Wimbledon crown and a historic 22nd major title, serena williams was back on Centre Court to join venus williams in the final of Ladies Doubles. The sisters extended their doubles dominance and improved their record to 14-0 in Grand Slam finals by taking the title, powering past  timea babos and shvedova 6-3, 6-4.

"It was really special to be out there again, to winWimbledon in doubles. We love it, we love playing doubles, we love being together," Serena said after the match.

"I had just enough time to change and get the ankles re-taped. It was fine. I didn't want to warm down."

 It was a tightly drawn match from start to finish, but Serena Williams  outgunned kerber in straight sets to win her seventh Wimbledon title - a record-tying 22nd Grand Slam title.

Playing in their second Grand Slam final of 2016, the No.4 seed kerber came out on fire against the World No.1, and neither player gave an inch. The pair held on to their serves for the first eleven games of the match, a baseline battle punctuated by sizzling rallies.

But a pair of costly errors from Kerber, serving to stay in the set at 6-5, gave the defending champion the first break of the match to take the opening set.

Kerber brought up her first break point at 3-3 in the second - the first break point Serena had faced since her fourth round match against kuznetsova - but the World No.1 responded in emphatic fashion. She fired off a pair of back to back aces and outpaced Kerber to see off the chance.

Serena summoned up one last break of serve, then reeled off a monster service game to clinch the match and The Championships, 7-5, 6-3.

LONDON, Great Britain - No.4 seed Angelique Kerber is back into the final of a Grand Slam for the second time in 2016 after battling past five-time champion venus williams at  Wimbledon, 6-4, 6-4.

Both players got off to a wobbly start, opening the match with five consecutive breaks of serve before Kerber grabbed the first hold for a 4-2 lead.

The German took full advantage, though, and employed her go-to tactic by keeping Venus running from alley line to alley line, throwing her off balance before firing a forehand down the line for a winner.

The former No.1 refused to wilt, and broke back once again to mount a comeback and force Kerber to serve for the set for a second time. Venus' forehand wing - which had been the more vulnerable side throughout the match - let her down as she dumped a forehand into the net to concede the first set to Kerber.

Serena Williams moved one step closer to a historic 22nd major with a straight set win over elena vesnina in Thursday's Wimbledon semifinals.

Displaying no trace of the nerves that have occasionally accompanied her quest to match Steffi Graf's Open Era record of 22 Grand Slam titles, Williams ruthlessly closed out a 6-2, 6-0 victory in just 49 minutes.

A rapid start saw the top seed race into a 3-0 lead with only nine minutes on the Centre Court clock. Venina, playing at this stage of a Grand Slam for the first time, did eventually get on the board, but was unable to stem the tide of winners streaming from Williams's racquet, an ace down the T closing out the set in emphatic fashion.

Williams tightened her grip on the contest at the start of the second, wrong-footing her dumbfounded opponent to earn two more break points. Only one was required, Vesnina wilting following another taxing baseline exchange.
