Sofia Kenin advances to 2 round of the us open 2017. Davis out

After storming to a 4-0 lead in the first set against wild card Sofia Kenin, No. 32 Lauren Davis appeared to be overcoming the first-round jitters that have plagued her summer and her US Open past.
Davis, 23, has not won a set in her first three US Open appearances and has had a trying summer, with a six-match losing streak spanning to Eastbourne. But up against the similarly-styled Kenin, a hard hitting 18 year old making her third US Open appearance, it was the younger American who showed poise and grit when it mattered, taking the first Grand Slam win of her young career. Kenin, aided by a bevy of ill-timed unforced errors from Davis, overcame the 0-4 deficit in the first set and a tightly contested second set to win 7-5, 7-5.“I just said I was going to fight to win,” an elated Kenin said after the win.
