SERENA WILLIAMS ADVANCED TO 3 ROUND IN THE BNP PARIBAS OPEN 2015

In what will go down as the most anticipated second-round match in tennis history, Serena Williams fought off nerves and the tricky Monica Niculescu 7-5, 7-5 to win her first match at the BNP Paribas Open in 14 years Friday night. It was a match that attracted a large crowd.

Sitting behind one baseline was tournament owner and Oracle founder Larry Ellison, tennis great John McEnroe and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Also in attendance was Williams’ mother Oracene. The last time Williams was at the BNP Paribas Open, she defeated Kim Clijsters in three sets to claim her second title in three years in 2001.
