Annika Beck won the first WTA title into Luxembourg 2014

Beck did come close to dropping a set in her first two matches, though.

She was down double set point in the first set tie-break of her 7-6(6), 6-3 first round victory over Timea Bacsinszky, and another one down 5-4 in the first set of her 7-5, 6-0 second round victory against No.6 seed Roberta Vinci.
But once she got out of those it was plain sailing - a 6-2, 6-2 win over Patricia Mayr-Achleitner in the quarterfinals, a 46-minute, 6-0, 6-1 clinic against Czech qualifier Denisa Allertova in the semis and finally a 6-2, 6-1 win over No.4 seed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the championship match. The final was much tougher than the scoreline would suggest, however - Zahlavova Strycova had game point in five of the 12 games Beck won, and the match lasted a fairly beefy hour and 33 minutes.

"I just tried to stay focused on myself and kept fighting, because Barbora was fighting all the time," Beck said. "She's a really good player with an aggressive game - she likes coming to the net a lot, so I had to watch out for that throughout the match. But I got a good start and managed to keep going. "It was a close final with a lot of close games, and I'm happy it turned out for me."
