Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario was inducted into the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame. Rogers Cup 2014

On Monday night, organizers honoured one of the tournament’s greatest ambassadors, as Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario was inducted into the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame.

The Spanish champion appeared in three singles finals and holds two Rogers Cup titles. She also took home two Canadian doubles trophies. At a touching ceremony on Centre Court, Mrs. Sanchez-Vicario unveiled the plaque to commemorate her induction. The star of the evening was joined by her husband Josep Santacana, their five-year-old daughter Arantxa and their son Leo, who is two and a half. Knowing the great champion’s love of dogs, Rogers Cup organizers asked the Mira Foundation to bring out four of their magnificent canines to take part in the ceremony. Challenger, Roger, Tia and Coyote the puppy, along with their trainers Nicolas Saint-Pierre, Sandy Fortier and Sarah Bazinet, made quite an impression on the unforgettable Spanish player. Mrs. Sanchez-Vicario acknowledged that the Rogers Cup was an unrivalled event, different from all the other tournaments in which she took part, and that she would always remember Montréal and the crowds that supported her with fondness.
