Agnieszka Radwanska played a perfect match to reach the semifinals of the Rogers Cup 2014

On Friday, third seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland played a perfect match to reach the semifinals of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. She defeated eighth seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in two sets (6-2, 6-2) in a duel that lasted just over an hour.

Troubled by a right knee injury that restricted her movements, Azarenka, a former no.1, was broken six times. It was the players’ 17th meeting and Radwanska’s fifth victory, her second consecutive. On Saturday, Radwanska will face world no.19 Ekaterina Makarova of Russia, who stopped Coco Vandeweghe’s amazing run in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-1) in 1:49. Drained by the event, which she entered in the qualifying rounds, the young American didn’t have any fight left in her in the third and was broken five times. The two players faced each other for the third time in their careers, and Makarova is now 3-0. Radwanska will not have an easy opponent in Makarova. She may lead their head-to-head 3-2 but Makarova has won their last two matches, including their most recent clash at Wimbledon this year.
