Sara Errani in QFS Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2014.

The Plot
In the past two years, Errani has carved out a reputation as one of the WTA's leading exponents of clay court tennis, picking up 52 wins and six titles on the surface. However, Stuttgart has never been the happiest of hunting grounds for the Italian, who prior to this visit had never won a match at the Porsche Arena. Kanepi has also been no stranger to success on clay in recent times, reaching the last eight at the French Open in both 2008 and 2012, and was the victor when the two last met on the surface, four years ago in Palermo.
 The Turning Point
Errani impressed in her opening round win, and after a slightly tentative start against Kanepi she soon found her rhythm. A run of four straight games helped her overturn an early deficit to take the opening set, as her endless retrieving and miserly unforced error count began to frustrate the Estonian. The second set was a similar story, Errani recovering from the loss of her opening service game to wrap up her 14th win of the season after just one hour and 22 minutes on court.
