Claro hdtv makes its debut on both the WTA and ATP World Tour calendars.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil
The stars of men's and women's tennis will take the same stage as the Rio Open presented by Claro hdtv makes its debut on both the ATP World Tour and WTA calendars. Just a few days before Carnival starts and a few months ahead of the FIFA World Cup, Rio de Janeiro will host the brand new joint event on the red clay of the iconic Jockey Club Brasileiro venue, which has eight courts - including a beautiful 6,200-seat stadium court especially built for this tournament.

This past year the WTA held its first tournament in Brazil in over a decade with the Brasil Tennis Cup in Florianopolis, and now there will be a second WTA event in Brazil with the Rio Open presented by Claro hdtv - it's actually going to be the first time the WTA will hold a tournament in Rio de Janeiro.

The event also comes hot off the heels of a long-awaited breakthrough in Brazilian women's tennis. Teliana Pereira reached the semifinals of Bogotá earlier this year, becoming the first Brazilian to reach a WTA semifinal since 1990 - she was also the first Brazilian women to reach the Top 100 since 1990. The women's player list hasn't been finalized yet, but star power has already been announced for the event on the men's side - two of the Top 3 players in the world, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer.
