Samantha Stosur started in style with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Elena Vesnina in her first match of the 2013 Garanti Koza WTA Tournament of Champions 2013 in Sofia. In the clash from the "Sredets" group, the Australian needed just 75 minutes to level at 2-2 her overall head-to-head statisticts with the Russian.
With this success Sam Stosur is tied with the Serbian Ana Ivanovic at the top of the "Sredets" group.
The coin toss before the match was thrown of Boris Tomov, wheelchair tennis champion of Bulgaria.
"I'm very happy with my first win here in Sofia", Stosur reckoned. "In the beginning of the second set Elena began to play with more confidence and I'm satisfied because I didn't let her back into the match."
Stosur and Vesnina played for 10 minutes just the first two games of the first set, but then the Australian found her first serve, broke Vesnina's serve to make it 5-3 and closed the set with 6-3 in 38 minutes. In the second set Vesnina responded well and made a break for 2-0.
Then the Russian got a 3:0 lead. Stosur handled the situation and rocketed her way back into the set and the match by winning the next six games.
